Bounce Health Innovation (Bounce) is a medical technology cluster made of a unique partnership among Eastern Health, Memorial University (Memorial Centre for Entrepreneurship and the Faculty of Medicine), the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Technology and Innovation, Genesis, the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information. The vision of Bounce is to help Newfoundland and Labrador become the testbed for medical technology innovation in North America. This will be accomplished by accelerating the growth of the health innovation sector in the province by continuing to align the health system with the principles of open innovation and entrepreneurship.
This position is hosted by the Memorial Centre for Entrepreneurship, a pan-university centre that inspires and enables aspiring entrepreneurs at Memorial University with a vision to help Memorial University become the leading entrepreneurial university in Canada. The Centre provides entrepreneurial students at Memorial University with foundational training, encouragement, guidance, access to funding and connections to create high growth businesses.
We are looking for an experienced Medtech entrepreneur who is excited about identifying and accelerating the commercialization of new technologies and services in the healthcare sector in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Reporting to the Director of Bounce, the Business Consultant will help proponents to explore the market for potential ideas and opportunities within the emerging health technology ecosystem in Newfoundland and Labrador. Opportunities are being generated from a variety of sources including Hacking Health, Entrepreneurial Work Terms in healthcare (including organizing them and providing mentorship), Translational and Personalized Medicine Initiative, and from broad based health-related research at Memorial and Eastern Health. The Business Consultant will support team formation or matching, ideation, problem discovery, idea validation, business model development, and proof-of-concept product development processes for emerging healthcare technologies and services. This will be done through individual mentorship, help with funding proposals, and any other support that will accelerate those steps. The Consultant will support the Director of Bounce with the implementation of events, programs and services. The Business Consultant will achieve those goals with the direct support of Bounce’s director, MCE’s director and other team members of the Bounce Health Innovation Initiative.
Experience (3 – 5 years) in the development of Software and/or Hardware based products in the healthcare sector, as well as experience leading a business. The successful candidate will have an Undergraduate Degree in Business; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter with excellent entrepreneurial, leadership and customer service skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team will be key in this role. Experience in inspiring women and gender minorities for entrepreneurship is an asset.
