NL Health Services Health Innovation Summit 2025

NL Health Services Health Innovation Summit 2025: Refocusing Health-Care Innovation

From November 3–6, 2025, Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services (NLHS), in collaboration with the Health Care Foundation, will host the Health Innovation Summit 2025 — a province-wide gathering dedicated to reimagining how we deliver and sustain healthcare.

This annual event brings together healthcare leaders, researchers, innovators, and system partners to explore transformative approaches that move healthcare upstream. With this year’s theme, “Refocusing Health-Care Innovation: Active Approaches to Population Health and Well-Being,” the Summit will highlight the shift toward prevention, early intervention, and community-led solutions that strengthen both system sustainability and patient outcomes.

At the heart of this effort is NLHS’ partnership with healthcare foundations across the province. Together, they’re championing innovation, funding promising ideas, and accelerating projects that improve population health and well-being for all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.

In-person attendance at this year’s Summit is by invitation only due to limited capacity, but virtual registration is open to the public — offering an opportunity for anyone passionate about health innovation to take part in shaping the future of care in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Innovation Week – TechNL

Innovation Week 2025: Scaling Companies, Expanding Markets, Empowering Talent

Newfoundland and Labrador’s biggest tech event of the year returns October 27–29, 2025 — and this year’s Innovation Week is all about scale, strategy, and success.

Hosted across the St. John’s Convention Centre and the Co. Innovation Centre, Innovation Week 2025 will bring together founders, executives, investors, and tech talent from across Atlantic Canada and beyond to tackle the real challenges of scaling companies, diversifying markets, and building world-class teams.

The agenda features global leaders and homegrown success stories — from Michele Romanow (Clearco Co-Founder, Dragons’ Den) on scaling culture and innovation, to Dan Shaw (Fiix, former Blackberry) on sales and sustainable growth, and Mohannad El-Barachi (Wrk.com, SweetIQ) on venture building in the AI age. Newfoundland and Labrador innovators from Kraken Robotics, Solace Power, Bluedrop ISM, Nasdaq Verafin, and Colab will also take the stage, sharing insights from companies that are driving global impact from right here at home.

Beyond the sessions, attendees can connect and celebrate the tech community at TechFest: Battle of the Tech Bands, and catch The Genesis Pitch, where founders compete for $45,000 in prizes and a place among NL’s next wave of innovators.

Whether you’re a founder, builder, or believer in Atlantic Canada’s tech ecosystem, Innovation Week 2025 is where ideas turn into action — and where the next chapter of growth begins.

Discharge Hub

DischargeHUB: Scaling Solutions Across Newfoundland & Labrador to Free Up Bed Capacity and Clinician Time

At Bounce Health Innovation, we’re proud to support Newfoundland-born innovations that are delivering real improvements in healthcare delivery across the region and beyond. One standout company is DischargeHUB, a home-grown solution built in collaboration with NL Health Services and now scaling across Newfoundland & Labrador.

DischargeHUB digitizes and streamlines the non-medical discharge process, including arranging home oxygen, equipment delivery, fire inspection clearance, and family communication, so patients can return home safely and sooner while hospitals reduce the time patients spend in acute care awaiting discharge. The impact has been impressive, with the platform reporting a reduction in average patient length of stay by 2.5 days and approximately 5 hours of clinician time saved per patient.

With an average of 60 discharges managed each month so far, DischargeHUB estimates that its current usage will translate into 1,800 additional bed-days and 3,600 hours of clinical capacity freed up annually. This kind of scale matters in a province where delayed discharges represent one of the most significant barriers to timely care.

At Bounce, we’re honoured to have helped support and validate DischargeHUB’s journey from local pilot to provincial-wide rollout. Their success demonstrates how Atlantic Canadian innovation can address high-priority system challenges while creating meaningful value for patients, clinicians, and the health system alike.

TxtSquad

TxtSquad: Built in Newfoundland, Scaling Canadian Innovation in Healthcare

At Bounce Health Innovation, we’re proud to spotlight companies that prove how made-in-Newfoundland solutions can strengthen healthcare across the country. TxtSquad, a St. John’s–based HealthTech company, is doing exactly that, expanding its proven patient engagement platform from Newfoundland and Labrador into Ontario.

Born in Newfoundland and developed in partnership with NL Health Services, TxtSquad is eliminating “hold music” from patient care through an AI-powered communication platform that helps clinics reduce no-shows, cut call volumes, and improve access to care. After demonstrating measurable success in public healthcare, TxtSquad is now scaling its impact to support healthcare teams in Ontario, showing that homegrown innovation can solve some of Canada’s biggest healthcare challenges.

In Newfoundland and Labrador, the scale of missed appointments is staggering, with hundreds of thousands each year costing the system millions. TxtSquad has already managed more than 115,000 appointments for over 36,000 patients, proving that better communication directly translates to more efficient care. The company projects that full provincial adoption could prevent more than 100,000 missed appointments annually in Newfoundland and Labrador alone.

TxtSquad’s expansion marks an important milestone for Canada’s healthcare ecosystem, demonstrating that Canadian-built, privacy-compliant (PIPEDA/PHIPA) digital tools can deliver scalable, accessible, and secure solutions for patients and providers alike.

At Bounce, we’re proud to have supported TxtSquad’s growth journey as they continue to turn local success into national impact. Their expansion into Ontario highlights how innovation developed here in Atlantic Canada can play a vital role in strengthening healthcare across the country.
