Small Province. Mighty Solutions.
Bounce Health Innovation hosts 3rd Annual Hackathon
March 1, 2019
What happens when you bring together healthcare professionals, designers, developers, innovators, entrepreneurs and patients to talk about challenges in healthcare? Solutions. These big thinkers are getting together March 1-3 for the third annual Hacking Health Hackathon.
What is Hacking Health?
Hacking Health is an international technology movement designed to improve healthcare. Creators and healthcare professionals are invited to collaborate on realistic, human-centric solutions to front-line problems. Locally, the Hackathon is hosted by Bounce Health Innovation, an initiative to accelerate growth in the province’s health innovation sector.
Individuals are encouraged to learn more and register for the Hackathon. During last year’s event, projects like MyCCath were pitched and have since been integrated into the healthcare system. MyCCath is designed to improve and expedite the referral process for Newfoundland and Labrador patients requiring cardiac catheterization (cath) laboratory services. Bounce Health Innovation has been supporting the further development and implementation of this solution and others for the past year.
“Newfoundland and Labrador may be physically small in comparison to other provinces, but we have a large community of innovators,” said Dr. Andrew Smith, Lead – Bounce Health Innovation. “In addition to this, we’re all healthcare consumers. It makes sense to bring people together from various backgrounds to help identify the challenges in our healthcare system and find solutions to make service delivery and treatment better and more affordable.”
“Through Bounce Health Innovation and the success of hacking health events, practical solutions enabled by technology and innovation are being developed to improve health services in our province,” says Paul Preston, Chief Executive Officer, NATI. “This is exciting and important not only for healthcare in the province, but also for the continued growth of the medtech sector in Newfoundland and Labrador.”
MyCCath is a clear demonstration of the power of Hacking Health in enabling effective collaboration among Clinical and Technical professionals coming together and innovating to address challenges in our healthcare system,” said Ron Johnson, Vice President, Information Services & Rural Health “With the support of Bounce, we are able to take important steps forward in further supporting the overall health of patients and clients.”
