PragmaClin: Revolutionizing Parkinson’s Care from Newfoundland and Labrador

At Bounce Health Innovation, we are proud to support trailblazing companies that are reshaping healthcare through innovative solutions. One of our standout success stories is PragmaClin Research Inc.—a health tech company based in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador—that’s turning heads with its groundbreaking approach to neurological care, starting with Parkinson’s Disease.

Founded in 2020 by Memorial University PhD student Bronwyn Bridges and Parkinson’s patient advocate Gord Genge, PragmaClin was built from both lived experience and academic insight. Together, they set out to address one of the most significant gaps in Parkinson’s care: timely, accurate, and accessible patient assessments. From that mission, PRIMS® (Parkinson’s Remote Interactive Monitoring System) was born.

PRIMS® is a digital clinical tool that uses 3D depth camera technology and clinical-grade assessments to remotely evaluate motor symptoms in people with Parkinson’s Disease. The system produces real-time reports for healthcare providers, allowing for more frequent and accurate monitoring—without requiring patients to travel long distances to see a specialist. For a province like Newfoundland and Labrador, where geography often limits access to care, this kind of innovation is a game changer.

The system aligns with the Movement Disorder Society’s Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale (MDS-UPDRS), ensuring it meets global clinical standards. It’s designed to improve treatment plans, reduce healthcare costs, and—most importantly—enhance quality of life for patients and their families. PragmaClin’s user-first approach centers the lived experience of those managing chronic neurological conditions, offering a tech-enabled solution that’s both compassionate and clinically rigorous.

The team’s work hasn’t gone unnoticed. In 2022, PragmaClin received the Trico Foundation’s NU Community Board Award, recognizing them as one of Canada’s top emerging social enterprises. The award celebrates student-led ventures that are delivering meaningful social impact through innovation and entrepreneurship—something PragmaClin exemplifies.

Looking ahead, the company is focused on validating its technology in clinical settings, securing regulatory approvals, and expanding its reach across Canada and beyond. Their goal is to bring accessible, efficient, and personalized care to everyone living with Parkinson’s Disease, no matter where they are.

At Bounce, we’ve had the privilege of supporting PragmaClin’s journey from early-stage research to a scalable, purpose-driven company. Their story is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when innovation is rooted in real-world challenges and driven by a commitment to making healthcare better for everyone.
